How did Arizona Get its Name?
The name for the US state “Arizona” has several possible origins.
The Pima tribe lived near a small spring which they called Alehson. The Spaniards that came exploring in the 16th century called these Pima lands Arizonac. A variation of the native words. Others say “The place of the small spring” might have been calld Ali-honak. Or, Arizona may have come from Spanish words from “Arid Place”.
