Did You Know? Connecticut
How did Connecticut get its name?
The state is named for the Connecticut River which approximately bisects the state. The word “Connecticut” is derived from various anglicized spellings of “Quinnehtukpt”, a Mohegan-Pequot word for “beside the long tidal river”. The Connecticut River is indeed long. At 410 miles, it’s the longest river in New England and flows through four states.
