Did You Know? Colorado

How did Colorado get its name?
When the Spanish reached the state in the 16th century, they described the area “Colorado”, which means “Color Red” because of the reddish, warm earthly colors they saw. Other names came and went, but Congress chose the name in 1876 when it officially became a state.
