The Palace of Caserta is known as “The Versailles of Italy”.
Fifteen miles north of Naples, it was aptly commissioned in 1751 by a great-grandson of Louis XIV – Charles III, King of Naples and Sicily.
The 1200 room palace boasts Italy’s most impressive monumental staircase, and the gardens run for miles, punctuated by fountains.
